As the day of Leonard’s trial dawns, Will and Geordie are called upon to investigate an audacious robbery from a bank security van in Cambridge, which has had tragic repercussions for an innocent bystander.
Questioning the apprehended suspect Malcy Smith and the bank security guard Wilson Black, Will and Geordie have a hunch that something about their account of events doesn’t quite add up – and when both men suddenly change their stories, they begin to wonder is someone else pulling the strings behind the scenes?
The investigation leads Geordie to cross paths with old army buddy, Johnny Richards, now working as a solicitor. But with his clients confessing to the crime there seems little Johnny can do to help, and it becomes increasingly likely that the true mastermind behind the robbery may evade justice.
Meanwhile, the Bishop warns Will that he cannot stand up in court and speak out on Leonard’s behalf – or else Will risks his standing in the church.
As Will weighs up his own fate against Leonard’s, it’s more uncertain than ever whether justice will be done in either case.
